Being a leader is a lonely place.
Most leaders feel some form of imposter syndrome, and this can range from questions about how to achieve the required level of success, or how do I get the team fully engaged and performing. Other triggers for anxiety can be questioning yourself about whether you are making the best decisions or even that you’re not making a decision, through concern about the impact of decisions on others. Most leaders find it difficult or impossible to discuss these issues with their teams or anyone else and, in some cases, leaders can feel overwhelmed or sometimes have trouble relaxing or sleeping.
Working with a Peer Group is about investing in the relationship and developing a group of close trusted critical friends and advisors. Part of the value comes from the investment in time that the group has made in your business, so able to understand your business challenges, strengths, weaknesses and its team members, and actively participates in ensuring the business is moving forward in the right direction.
The groups typically meet up monthly, either face to face or by Zoom.
Face to face meetings can be at member sites, or a best-practice visit: places like Warburtons main factory, a JLR at Speke or the Manufacturing Technology Centre.
We also welcome speakers to the group. People who talk about their experiences in leadership, or explain in detail about books they have written. We have had some great speakers talking facinating subjects. People like Brendan Hall talking about his book "Team Spirit" and Lt Col Chris Gibson MBE explaining his roles in gaining the release of Terry Waite from Beirut and the deployment of NHS volunteers to address Ebola in West Africa.
